Labiaplasty is done to reduce the length of the labia minora. Women choose to have this surgery because the extended labia can cause pain when exercising, riding a bike, or having intercourse. It can also cause itching and irritation. The Benefits
With the trim approach, Dr. Wingate will directly remove excess tissue along the edge of the labia minora. This will reduce the size so that the tissue doesn’t extend beyond the labia majora. This is the most common labiaplasty approach.
The wedge approach focuses on maintaining the natural edge of your labia while still reducing its size. To perform this procedure, Dr. Wingate will remove a small, wedge-shaped piece of tissue from the labia. He will then suture the remaining edges together, which reduces the size of the labia while preserving its natural contours.
Dr. Wingate will perform your vaginal rejuvenation under local anesthesia with oral sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your needs and if you’re having any other procedures done simultaneously. Once the medication has taken effect, he will precisely reduce the size of your labia minora before closing the incisions with care.
As long as you’re in good general health and want to reduce the size of your labia minora, you are likely a candidate for labiaplasty.
Most of the swelling will be gone after six weeks, at which point you’ll have a fairly good idea of your results. However, it can take up to six months for your results to be considered final. Most of our patients have little to no scarring after their labiaplasty.
If you have a sedentary job, you should be able to return to work after just a few days. You’ll need to avoid sex and exercise for up to six weeks to ensure optimal healing.
