What is Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is done to reduce the length of the labia minora. Women choose to have this surgery because the extended labia can cause pain when exercising, riding a bike, or having intercourse. It can also cause itching and irritation. The Benefits

Types of Labiaplasty

Trim

With the trim approach, Dr. Wingate will directly remove excess tissue along the edge of the labia minora. This will reduce the size so that the tissue doesn’t extend beyond the labia majora. This is the most common labiaplasty approach.

Wedge

The wedge approach focuses on maintaining the natural edge of your labia while still reducing its size. To perform this procedure, Dr. Wingate will remove a small, wedge-shaped piece of tissue from the labia. He will then suture the remaining edges together, which reduces the size of the labia while preserving its natural contours.

The Surgery

Dr. Wingate will perform your vaginal rejuvenation under local anesthesia with oral sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your needs and if you’re having any other procedures done simultaneously. Once the medication has taken effect, he will precisely reduce the size of your labia minora before closing the incisions with care.

Am I a candidate for labiaplasty?

As long as you’re in good general health and want to reduce the size of your labia minora, you are likely a candidate for labiaplasty.

When will I see my labiaplasty results?

Most of the swelling will be gone after six weeks, at which point you’ll have a fairly good idea of your results. However, it can take up to six months for your results to be considered final. Most of our patients have little to no scarring after their labiaplasty.

How long is the recovery?

If you have a sedentary job, you should be able to return to work after just a few days. You’ll need to avoid sex and exercise for up to six weeks to ensure optimal healing.

Will labiaplasty affect sensation?

Labiaplasty focuses on reshaping excess tissue while preserving the surrounding anatomy. When performed carefully, the procedure is designed to maintain normal sensation.

Can labiaplasty improve comfort in fitted clothing or swimwear?

Excess labial tissue can sometimes create pulling or irritation when wearing tight clothing. Reducing the tissue often allows garments such as leggings, swimsuits, and cycling shorts to feel more comfortable.

Is labiaplasty only performed for cosmetic reasons?
