The Surgery

Your otoplasty will be done under general anesthesia. Once the medication has taken effect, Dr. Wingate will create an incision on the back of your ear. He will then weaken or remove the cartilage that’s causing your ear to protrude. He will then position your ear in a more desirable location before sewing it into place with sutures.

Once the process has been completed on both ears, we will apply a dressing and compression bandage to your ears to protect the area during the initial recovery period.

The Recovery

You’ll return home the same day as your otoplasty to begin the recovery period. The bandages will stay in place for about one week. Once the bandages are removed, you may need to wear a supportive headband while you’re sleeping for a few additional weeks to promote optimal healing.

Your Results

Once the bandages are removed, you’ll see an immediate improvement in your ears’ appearance. However, your results won’t be considered final for another several weeks. During that time, swelling and bruising will continue to subside.
