Lighter Breasts That Fit Your Frame

Breasts that are too large for your frame can cause discomfort and aesthetic issues. In these cases, a breast reduction with Dr. Wingate can shape lighter, proportionate, and balanced breasts that look and feel beautiful.

Breast Reduction Before & After

Breast Reduction Surgery What to Expect

Breast reduction surgery reduces the size of your breasts while simultaneously improving their shape and placement. During the procedure, Dr. Wingate will:

  • Remove excess breast tissue and skin
  • Reduce the overall size of the breast
  • Adjust the size and position of the areola
  • Sculpt an overall natural and perky chest

The Surgery

Dr. Wingate will perform your breast reduction under general anesthesia. The entire procedure will take approximately two to three hours to complete. Depending on the size of your breasts and your desired results, Dr. Wingate may use one of the following three techniques:

Vertical Reduction

With this technique, Dr. Wingate will make an incision around the areola and down your breast. It’s ideal for women who require moderate breast size reduction and want to address noticeable sagging.

Inverted Reduction

The incisions with this approach mimic those of the vertical reduction but with an additional opening along the bottom crease of your breasts. Dr. Wingate usually reserves this approach for women who need significant breast size reductions.

Liposuction

If you only require a slight reduction in breast size, Dr. Wingate may be able to accomplish your goals with liposuction. It’s less invasive and can remove a small amount of fat from the breasts. However, it’s not ideal for women who have very large breasts or significant sagging and asymmetry.

The Recovery

After your breast reduction surgery, we will fit you with a surgical bra to wear during your recovery to support your new breast contours and ensure your comfort. You can expect to take at least one week off from work.

The Results

You’ll notice that your breasts are lighter and more balanced within the first two to three months, but it can take one year for your full results to become apparent.

Breast ReductionFrequently Asked Questions

Will I have scars after my breast reduction?

Breast reduction surgery will result in some scars. However, Dr. Wingate will strategically place the incisions so that the resulting scars are concealed in the natural contours of your breast or easily hidden by a bra or bathing suit.

How do I know if breast reduction is right for me?

Many patients consider breast reduction when large breasts interfere with daily comfort, posture, or physical activity. A consultation allows Dr. Wingate to evaluate your anatomy, discuss your goals, and determine whether surgery is an appropriate option.

Can breast reduction improve posture?

Excess breast weight can contribute to forward shoulder positioning and chronic strain across the upper back. Reducing that weight often allows patients to stand and move more comfortably.

Can breast reduction correct uneven breasts?

Breast reduction can often address noticeable asymmetry by adjusting the amount of tissue removed from each side. This allows the surgeon to create a more even breast size and shape.

What happens to nipple sensation after breast reduction?

Most patients maintain normal or near-normal nipple sensation after surgery. Temporary changes can occur during healing, but sensation often improves as swelling resolves.

Will I still be able to breastfeed after breast reduction?

Some patients are able to breastfeed after breast reduction, while others may experience reduced milk production. Because techniques vary, this is an important topic to discuss during your consultation if future breastfeeding is a priority.

Does weight change affect breast reduction results?

Significant weight fluctuations can influence breast size and shape over time. Maintaining a stable weight helps preserve the long-term balance achieved with surgery.

When can I start sleeping on my side again?

Patients are usually advised to sleep on their back for the first few weeks to protect the healing breasts. Side sleeping is typically allowed once swelling decreases and your surgeon confirms it is safe.

How soon can I buy new bras after breast reduction?

Most patients wait several weeks before shopping for new bras while swelling settles. Your surgical bra will provide support during the early healing phase.

Will breast reduction make clothing fit better?

Many patients find that clothing fits more comfortably after surgery. Shirts, dresses, and athletic wear often sit more proportionately on the body once breast size is reduced.
