Beautiful Lips That Are Naturally Yours

Full lips are a vibrant sign of youthful beauty. Unfortunately, they tend to thin with age. And, as your facial skin loosens, you may notice a longer distance between the bottom of your nose and your upper lip, which can impact the way your smile looks.

Subtle, Lasting Volume

A lip lift with Dr. Wingate can:

  • Make your lips appear more voluminous
  • Reverse lip corners that point downward
  • Smooth away lip lines caused by aging
  • Shorten the philtrum (the area between your nose and mouth)
  • Create an overall fuller and more youthful mouth without the need for fillers
  • Improve your smile and boost your confidence

Types of Lip Lifts

Bullhorn

This is the most common type of lip lift. It involves a single incision shaped like a bullhorn just beneath your nose. Through that opening, Dr. Wingate will gently elevate the sides and center of your upper lip.

Central

Another common approach, the central lip lift involves an incision at the base of your nose. Through that opening, Dr. Wingate can elevate the center of your upper lip.

Corner

This approach focuses only on elevating the corners of the lips, making it ideal for people with downturned lips that affect their expression.

Gullwing

With a gullwing lip lift, Dr. Wingate will make an incision along the border of your upper lip to create more definition.

The Surgery

If you’re only having a lip lift without any other procedures, it can be done under local anesthesia. That means you’ll be awake but won’t feel any pain. If you’re combining your lip lift with a facelift or rhinoplasty, you’ll receive general anesthesia.

During the lip lift, Dr. Wingate will precisely remove extra skin between your nose and upper lip and subtly elevate your mouth. The entire procedure takes less than one hour, and you will be free to return home on the same day.

The Recovery

You can expect a full recovery within six to eight weeks. However, swelling and bruising will subside within just one week, at which point most of our patients feel comfortable enough to return to work.

Benefits of a Lip Lift

  • Full, defined, and youthful lips
  • Long-lasting results
  • Minimal scarring
  • Relatively quick procedure and recovery

Lip LiftFrequently Asked Questions

Are lip lift scars visible?

Dr. Wingate will place your incisions so that they are hidden within the natural creases of your face. He also uses advanced closure techniques to ensure that any resulting scars are virtually imperceptible and do not impact your overall appearance.

When will I see the final results of my lip lift?

It can take about four months for the results to be considered final.

How long do I have to take off from work?

Many of our Westchester area patients can return to work a few days to a week after surgery. However, you should continue to avoid heavy lifting and anything strenuous for about two weeks.
