Follow-Up Schedule

We’ll monitor your recovery at every key stage:

  • Day 1: Initial post-op visit
  • Week 1: Healing check
  • Week 2: Continued progress
  • Week 6: Final evaluation

Preparing for Surgery

To ensure a safe and seamless experience:

  • Begin taking Arnica (provided at your pre-op visit), and continue all approved medications.
  • If anesthesia is required, your anesthesiologist will provide specific instructions the day before surgery.
  • Avoid aspirin, Advil, ibuprofen, NSAIDs, fish oil, omega-3 supplements, and other blood thinners for 10 days prior - unless cleared by Dr. Wingate.
  • Refrain from anti-inflammatory medications for 1 month pre-op.

Please arrange for someone to drive you home after your procedure.

Treatment Area Care

Showering

  • You may shower the day after surgery using a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser.
  • Avoid soaking in baths, hot tubs, or pools until cleared by Dr. Wingate.

Compression Garment

  • You’ll leave your procedure wearing a compression garment that wraps around your jaw and head.
  • This garment helps minimize swelling and support tissue healing. Please wear it as instructed.

Returning to Normal Activities

  • Most patients return to work (desk jobs) within a few days to one week.
  • Swelling and mild discomfort may persist, but most resume normal routines within 7 days.

Managing Discomfort

  • The procedure is typically performed using local anesthesia, which lasts 4-8 hours post-op.
  • Be sure to fill your prescriptions before surgery so they’re available when you return home.
  • Most patients transition to Tylenol + Advil by day two.
  • Mild to moderate discomfort is expected, and compression helps reduce movement-related soreness.

Healing Process

Swelling and bruising are completely normal and will gradually resolve over the next several weeks to months.

To promote a smooth recovery:

  • Avoid overexertion during the first few weeks
  • Wear your compression garment consistently
  • Stay well hydrated and follow post-op instructions
