Your Skin, Beautifully Transformed

Microneedling is a cosmetic treatment that uses controlled injury to rejuvenate your face. Also referred to as Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT), it triggers your skin’s natural repair mechanisms by creating tiny injuries in the treatment area.

  • Improve overall skin texture and tone
  • Stimulate collagen production
  • Reveal your healthiest and most radiant complexion
  • Reduce acne scars
  • Minimize wrinkles
  • Shrink large pores

Why We Use SkinPen for Microneedling

Not all microneedling devices deliver the same results. At Wingate Plastic Surgery, we perform microneedling with SkinPen, the first FDA-cleared microneedling device. SkinPen is a medical-grade precision tool available exclusively through licensed skincare professionals, and its clinical track record sets it apart from consumer-grade alternatives.

SkinPen creates hundreds of microscopic channels in the dermis, triggering the skin's natural production of collagen and elastin without heat or harsh chemicals. The device has undergone more than 90 validation studies to confirm its quality, safety, and performance across all skin types and tones.

Key reasons Dr. Wingate's team uses SkinPen:

  • FDA De Novo classification for improving the appearance of facial acne scars
  • FDA 510(k) clearance for improving the appearance of neck wrinkles
  • Safe for all skin tones, including deeper complexions that can be sensitive to heat-based treatments
  • Adjustable needle depth for a customized treatment matched to your skin concerns
  • Naturally remodels skin without ablative techniques or extended downtime

Your Treatment Experience: What to Expect

Your microneedling treatment takes place in the comfort of our Malvern office, and the process is straightforward from start to finish.

Before Your Treatment

During your consultation, Dr. Wingate or our licensed aesthetician will evaluate your skin, discuss your goals, and confirm that microneedling with SkinPen is the right fit for you. We will review your skin history and customize the treatment depth based on your specific concerns, whether that is acne scarring, uneven texture, fine lines, or enlarged pores.

During Your Treatment

To begin, we apply a topical anesthetic to your skin to keep you comfortable throughout the session. Once the numbing cream has taken effect, we gently pass the SkinPen across the treatment area, creating precise microchannels at a controlled depth. Most patients describe the sensation as light pressure with a mild buzzing feeling. The treatment itself takes approximately 30 minutes, depending on the area being addressed. To enhance your results, we may combine your microneedling session with platelet-rich plasma, topical gels, creams, or serums.

After Your Treatment

There is little to no downtime after your microneedling treatment. Your skin may appear red or feel tight for a few days following your session, similar to a mild sunburn, but this will not prevent you from returning to work or your normal routine. Some patients also experience minor dryness or peeling as their skin renews itself. Your skin will quickly begin generating fresh tissue in response to the microchannels, and most patients begin to see visible improvements within a couple of weeks. Results continue to develop over the following months as new collagen matures.

After Your Treatment

There is little to no downtime after microneedling. Your skin may be irritated and red for a few days, but it won’t prevent you from going to work or school. Your skin will quickly begin generating fresh tissue in response to the injured area and you should see your results within a couple of weeks.

Pre & Post Procedure Guide

Microneedling vs. Laser Skin Resurfacing Which One is Right for You?

Both procedures are safe, effective, and non-surgical ways to correct signs of aging, such as scarring, uneven skin tone, texture issues, fine lines, wrinkles, and more. In general, we recommend microneedling if your goal is to achieve vibrant, youthful skin overall. Conversely, if you want more dramatic aesthetic results, laser skin resurfacing may be in your best interest.

Microneedling Frequently Asked Questions

How many microneedling sessions will I need?

It depends on your goals and skin quality. Most of our patients need multiple sessions for optimal results.

How is microneedling different from microdermabrasion?

Both of these treatments improve your skin texture and quality, but microdermabrasion does so without needles. Instead, it uses a rough texture to exfoliate the outer layers of your skin. Microneedling treats the tissue beneath the surface of your skin, so the results are more substantial.

What treatment areas are appropriate for microneedling?

The most popular microneedling treatment areas are the face, neck, and chest.

Is SkinPen safe for all skin types?

Yes. One of the distinguishing advantages of SkinPen is that it is validated for safe use across all skin types and tones. Because the device stimulates collagen naturally without heat or chemicals, it does not carry the same risk of hyperpigmentation that some heat-based treatments pose for darker complexions.
